FLAMINGOZ JOINT AT THE EQUATOR.
Flamingoz joint is a place with a rich Ugandan culture, African touch and cosy space to relax. Located right at the roadside, only a stone throw away from the equator monuments. It is only one hour and a half to Lake Mburo National Park. The restaurant is about 72km from Kampala that is one hour and a half on Masaka road, Kayabwe. The spot has a lot of interesting things to offer, you definitely wouldn’t want to miss out.
The restaurant has a variety of food options ranging from local foods to a few continental cuisines, diverse variety of refreshments and drinks to choose from. Flamingo’s joint has ample parking space for buses too, the interior is really spacious and can sit more than 25 people. It has three sections that include the inside section, outside and upstairs that has a beautiful aerial view of the town. The washrooms are very clean with flashing toilets, soap, tissue and water are always available. They also have free Wi-Fi and television for entertainment, an installed fan in case it gets hot inside, which is rare because of the very wide windows that encourage good aeration and keep the restaurant cool all day.
Flamingoz joint is also an art and crafts hub with a wide range of different items ranging from clothes, utensils, art pieces, African drums and other souvenirs most of them handmade by the owners of the restaurant. A mini shop that has mostly snacks, bubble-gum, candy, cigarettes, honey, coffee, tea and other beverages are also available. Take-out/ take-away services are provided not to forget the staff’s friendly and quick service they provide to the clients. Right behind the counter is a bar with an array of drinks like wines, whiskeys, liquor, rum and beers, soft drinks like sodas, tropical juice and smoothies are on the menu too.
The art and crafts at flamingoz joint are all handmade with very beautiful unique designs, with clothing you will find tie and die designs, hats made from backcloth, kitengi / African fabric garments, bags woven from different material like sisal, dried banana fibres, palm leaves, jewellery, shoes and sandals. The art pieces include fine art, mosaic, batik, doodles, wooden masks and other wall hangings. Post cards are also available, most of them African themed. Books and magazines about Uganda, East Africa and Africa at large, language translating books e.g Luganda-English, Swahili-English, Swahili/Luganda – Dutch and a lot more. Drums of all shapes and sizes are also sold. You can get any souvenirs from here, at good negotiable prices.
Flamingoz joint makes its own coffee and processes coffee beans, packages it and ready to be sold. Their future plan is having a few activities to do, like touring the coffee plantation in which their Equatorial coffee is got. The activities will include coffee processing, you will be shown how coffee is got right from how it is planted to when it is brewed.
